A csapat öt fiúból és egy lányból állt. Bár a lányon látszott, hogy nem fűlik a foga ehhez a hajnali kiruccanáshoz, és valószínűleg kihátrál a kalandból, még mielőtt az egyáltalán elkezdődne. Elérkezett a leszállás pillanata, és Anna - mert ez volt a lány neve – egészen közel hajolva, halkan közölte Tibivel, hogy ő bizony megy tovább. Tibi persze tiltakozni kezdett, de mikor az ajtózárást jelző csengő megszólalt, kénytelen volt leszállni. A többiek kérdőn néztek rá, mire azt mondta nekik: „Ugyan, ismeritek jól! Gyáva! De mi nem vagyunk azok, mi megcsináljuk! Nagyon jó buli lesz! Mikor híre megy, mindenki felnéz majd ránk.” Lelkesítő szavai, mint eddig mindig, most is meghallgatásra találtak, és a kezébe mindegyik társa tétovázás nélkül belecsapott.

Még pár perc séta után elérkeztek a céljukhoz, a kerület egyik legnagyobb bevásárlóközpontjához, ahol Tibi apja délelőtti műszakban biztonsági őrként dolgozott. Egy oldalsó bejáraton mentek be, a Tibi apjától megkaparintott kódokkal.

A kamerák helyét jól ismerték, hiszen rengetegszer jártak már az épületben, és az utóbbi pár alkalommal - mióta tervezni kezdték ezt a betörést - szándékosan a holtterek megjegyzésén fáradoztak. A második emeletre tartottak éppen a sötétben, mikor egy biztonsági őrbe botlottak – szó szerint.

A férfi a lépcsőházhoz vezető ajtón lépett ki, mikor a fiúk két méterre voltak attól. Az őr rögtön a fegyvere után kapott, amit a fiúk a mindent ellepő sötétség ellenére is láttak, és Tibi volt a gyorsabb. A baseballütővel, amit a biztonság kedvéért hozott magával, odavágott egyet az őrnek, mire az kiterült a földön. Tibi jó erőben volt, hiszen mint barátai, ő is tagja volt az iskolai kosárcsapatnak - sőt, ő volt a kapitány –, így az ütés igen erőteljesre sikeredett. A seb elég súlyos volt, az ütőn lassan lefelé csordogáló vér legalábbis erről árulkodott. A másik négy fiú elképedve pillantott egyszer Tibire és a kezét, illetve ütőjét vörösre festő vérre, majd pedig a testre a földön. Pár pillanat után Tibi, látva a rá irányuló tekinteteket, összeszedte magát, és ezt mondta társainak (és talán saját magának is): „Nem volt más választásom, a fegyvere után kapott! Mi van, ha lelő?” Társai megborzongtak. „Láttátok ti is, hogy rögtön támadni akart! És különben is, nem ütöttem akkorát, csak felszakadt a fejbőre, és ezért vérzik. Mi csak poénból vagyunk itt, nem vagyunk rablók, és mégis fegyvert rántott volna ellenünk!” – hangja tele volt magabiztossággal, amit igazából nem érzett, és felháborodással, aminek jogosságáról már eléggé sikerült meggyőznie magát. Ez társaira meg is tette a kívánt hatást; már beszéde elején bólogatni kezdtek, a végére pedig már-már utálkozó pillantásokat vetettek a földön fekvő őrre. „Szerintem csak hagyjuk itt” – mondta az egyik fiú, majd kérdőn Tibire nézett, aki homlokát ráncolva bólintott, majd megvonta a vállát, és továbbindult.

Az egyik bútorüzlet felé vették az útjukat, aminek a lakatját már ki is nézték maguknak pár éjszakával ezelőtt, hogy fel tudják törni. Bejutva félig-meddig elfojtott röhögés közepette szaladtak egy a kamera holtterében lévő, császári méretű - és árú - franciaágy felé, majd lehuppantak arra. „El sem hiszem, hogy sikerült! Képzeljétek, milyen képet vágnak majd reggel, mikor az ágynemű szanaszét lesz. Lehet, hogy azt fogják hinni, szellemek jártak itt” – vigyorgott Tibi, majd megfogott egy párnát, és egyik társához vágta, akinek a fejéről továbbpattanva, pár méterre a földön kötött ki. – „Na, gyerünk, párnacsata, aztán húzzunk innen!” - bíztatta társait, akik rögtön engedelmeskedtek is. Azonban a csapat a dobálástól elfáradt, és mindnyájan ledőltek pihenni az ágyra.

Úgy tervezték, pár percig megpihennek, majd hazaindulnak, de erőt vett rajtuk a kimerültség, és elaludtak. Órákkal később ébredtek, mikor az áruházi személyzet egy része már megérkezett. A kijutás nehezebbnek ígérkezett a bejutásnál, hiszen a sötétség már nem rejtette el őket. Kifelé ugyanazon az útvonalon haladtak, mint befelé, és a terembe érve, ahol az őrt hagyták, sokkoló látvány tárult a szemük elé.

A férfi a földön feküdt, feje alatt félig felszáradt tócsában állt a vér, a teste természetellenes szögben görnyedt. A szeme csukva volt, és alig láthatóan, de emelkedett a mellkasa. Ingjén igazolványa enyhén össze volt maszatolva, de jól kiolvasható volt a név, „Bitang Gábor”. „Apa?!” – nyögte ki Tibi elcsukló hangon – „Istenem, apa! Segítség, segítsen valaki, orvost, hívjatok egy orvost!” – a szavak egyre hisztérikusabban törtek ki a szájából, arcát könnyek áztatták. Társai összeszedték lélekjelenlétüket, és míg Tibi apja fejét gyengéden ölébe fektette, a teremből kifutva segítségért mentek.

Tibi apját kórházba szállították, ahol kiderült, hogy a gerincsérülése miatt csak korlátoltan tud majd mozogni, így állását ott kellett hagynia. Tibi ellen eljárás indult, amit az áruház igazgatója kezdeményezett, és végül fiatalkorúak börtönében letöltendő büntetést szabtak ki rá. A társai próbálták az ütést magukra vállalni, hiszen Tibi volt a legjobb barátjuk, de Tibi nem hagyta; úgy érezte vállalnia kell a felelősséget tettéért.

Büntetése letöltése után anyja, három barátja és az apja várta az intézet előtt. Tibit az utóbbi jelenléte igencsak meglepte, hiszen a tárgyalása óta nem látta a férfit, és nem is beszélgettek, eltekintve a pár levéltől, amit váltottak. Odaállt az apja elé, és több érzéssel, mint eddig valaha életében mondta:„Sajnálom.”
